Natural Rocks / Feature in Indonesia

The Pura Batur Gangsian site was a very special trip, which I did some time ago when I was staying in Munduk in the mountains. The site is located at a long winding road up in the mountains right at the border between Buleleng and Tabangan regency. I found the site based on some internet research, where it is described as a very mysterious site from the megalithic times. Reaching the site is actually very simple with a normal car. The still in use Hindu temple is right on the ridge along the road and you only have to walk some steps done to come to the site. The local tourist web sites claim these stones are pillars from the megalithic times and state that they were part of some bigger structures. I have found one scientific reference to it from a local university, but my further research did not result in more detailed information. Surely the hundreds of "pillars" piled over each other seem "odd" and somehow reminded my of the magnificent "Gunung Padang" in West Java. However why they are piled up like this, or if this is a natural phenomena, if the pillars are natural or being crafted by humans remains a mystery. I have climbed around the ridge and indeed it could be that there was a larger complex, but there was too little information accessible to me, so it remains unclear what these stone pillars are doing there. Find out by yourself when you are in the Munduk area ;) !
