MartinJEley visited on 10th Apr 2013 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 4 Access: 5 The photographs were taken during my visit in April 2013 on a grey day which did not necessarily do justice to some of the exhibits and I was using my iPod which does not do well with high contrast.

Museum in Beijing.

Beijing's Ancient Observatory is one of the oldest in the world with this location being established in 1442. Today the original observing tower is part of a museum that includes other buildings and some pleasant gardens. Throughout the museum there are many astronomical devices, some original and some more modern copies of old designs.

The exhibits are accompanied by placards in English and the whole museum makes for a very pleasant visit.

NOTE: Not prehistoric but will be of interest to followers of ancient astronomy
