The Western Australia Museum contains a wide variety of exhibits relating to West Australia including an extensive permanent collection of prehistoric aboriginal artifacts.

The photo to the left illustrates a collection of Kimberley Points which represent a technique from 5000 years before present which either evolved locally or was introduced.

Western Australia Museum submitted by DrewParsons : 22 Cone Shell beads dated to approximately 32,000 years before present. Found at Mandu Creek Rock Shelter, Exmouth, Western Australia, they represent the earliest example of human adornment yet found in Australia. Signs of abrasion from string rubbing on the shells indicate that they were worn by someone. The shells are of a non edible shellfish. June 2013. (Vote or comment on this photo)

These artifacts are radio carbon dated to 43,000, 20,000 and 12,000 years before present. They were used to make skin cloaks and bags, and as fasteners for cloaks. It is not know whether their appearance is either due to the evolution of local techniques or to introduced styles.
