In the hustle-and-bustle of the Nusa Dua Peninsular, Indonesia there are still some nice cultural gems hidden. The Batu Pageh temple is one of them, located within the cliffs overseeing the Green bowl beach, one of the small beaches that are not so much frequented by tourists. You have to go down steep steps to reach the beach. On the beach is a cave where several rocks which are still worshipped. Even more interesting is the actual temple half way in the cliff (the official path is via the temple on top of the cliff).
When looking for signs of the megalithic times in Bali, you will in most cases end up in Hindu temples, which took over more ancient sites. This seems to be the case in Batu Pageh as well. As mentioned the rock formations are still being worshipped and you should prepare for appropriate clothing (sarong) when entering the temple. The cave is not much frequented by visitors so it is full of bats. A special place with a spectacular view over the sea.
