Bird_nerd29 visited on 6th Aug 2023 - their rating: Cond: 5 Amb: 5 Access: 5 The Pinnacles is a popular place to visit; and rightly so - it is truly amazing. You feel like you’re on a different planet, with jagged stones and rocks as far as the eye can see in every direction on the desert landscape. You have to pay to access the site, as you drive round a marked track, but you can park at stopping places and walk around for a closer look. There is an information centre with an exhibition on the history of the place. Very interesting and grateful to be able to access this intriguing site.

The Pinnacles

The Pinnacles are natural limestone formations in Nambung National Park, Western Australia. This area was important to the semi nomadic Aboriginal tribes because of water. They would come to this place when the seasonal Nambung River made a chain of waterholes through part of the park.

The water then disappears into a cave system, and these waterholes and caves were essential to the survival of Aboriginal life.

There are many myths about this sacred place and it was said that Aboriginal people avoid the Pinnacles as they thought the standing stones were fossilised ghosts.
