Niah Caves submitted by DrewParsons : The Great Cave photographed during a visit in 1993. This is the only photo I have of the site, please excuse the quality. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Niah Caves located south of Miri in Sarawak, Malaysia are the location of some of the oldest human habitation sites in South East Asia. First human activity at the caves is dated to around 46,000 years ago.

The site is located in the Niah National Park and involves a walk through the jungle on a long plank walkway. Nowadays there are huge colonies of bats and swallows inhabiting the giant cave.

Excavation sites are located just inside the main overhanging entrance of Niah Great Cave. Here tools, cooking utensils and ornaments were found. Further into the cave are burial sites dating from the Paleolithic to the last millennia.

Nearby is the Niah Painted Cave with rock paintings dated to 600 years ago.

The location coordinates are given for the park headquarters from where a boat and then plank walk lead you to the site.
