Hoga Runestone
Hoga Runestone submitted by ShamrockStone : Hoga Runestone (Vote or comment on this photo)
The only known rune stone on the island of Orust. It dates back to the Viking era, about 800 years A.D.

The stone has 22 engraved runes in a single sequence. According to one interpretation from 1922 it means Haur of Stream marked this stone for Ramund. If so, it is a memorial for someone who died overseas on a Viking raid. Interesting is that the stone was already called Ramund's Rock in the 1700s. Stream may be the name of a farm. In much the same way the grave mounds gave the place its name, for Hoga does mean mound.
