Bardal Carvings
Bardal Carvings submitted by kenntha88 : Here we can see the head, neck and front leg of a animal, probably an elk (painted in yellow) from the stone age with a overlapping boat carving. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Rock carving near Steinkjer in Norway. The site is one of the most important in Trøndelag.
Some figures picturing large animals are believed to be from later stone age, since these types of carvings are the most common found from this time period.

In the bronze age several figures have been added or are even overlapping the older figures. The older figures partly are significantly more eroded than the newer ones.
The carvings from the stone age (4000 to 3000BCE) consist of some large animal carvings and parts of some animal figures. They seem to be picturing elk and reindeer.
The younger carvings from the bronze age (2000 to 1000BCE) consist of several huge boat carvings with numerous small vertical lines believed to picture boat crew and also several smaller boat carvings. These are the most common ones from bronze age.
Further there are several "sun discs", cup marks and geometrical figures and a number of strange lines.
Signs have been put up to show the short path leading up to the carvings from the road and a small fence has been built around the site.

Bardal Carvings
Bardal Carvings submitted by kenntha88 : The longest boat carving. It's on the top of the panel so it was difficult to get a good angle for a picture.

Bardal Carvings submitted by kenntha88 : A strange geometrical figure inside a clear oval shape. Are there two animals inside? Maybe it is supposed to be an enclosed grazing pasture?
