Baiuvarian Cemetery Herrsching
Baiuvarian Cemetery Herrsching submitted by Harald_Platta : The Baiuvarian cemetery dates from the 7th century and is located in the Archaeological Park in Herrsching am Ammersee (Bavaria, Germany). Grave No. 1 contained the bones of three men (20-60 years old) that were burried at the same time. Even though this was an early Christian cemetery, the grave contained grave goods, as in Pagan burials. © Platta September 2019 (Vote or comment on this photo)
The cemetery is located in the Archaeological Park in Herrsching am Ammersee (Bavaria, Germany), which shows finds from the Roman and Baiuvarian time.

The Baiuvarian cemetery and the foundation walls of a chapel from the 7th century were discovered in 1982. Both belonged most likely to a noble family. So far, 14 graves were discovered. They are made of tuff and contained the bones of 15 adults and 4 children. Although this was an early Christian cemetery, some graves still contained grave goods, as known from Pagan burials.
The site is accessible via a modern cemetery.

Please note that the site is a cemetery and listed as “barrow cemetery”. However, the graves were most likely not covered by a mound.
