The National Museum in Malaysia provides an overview of Malaysian history and culture. Among the collections are the stone Makara statue, the bronze Avalokiteshvara of Bidor and a model of the Bujang Valley temple in Kedah,

The ground floor showcases the geographic and natural history of the Malay peninsula starting with the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age, Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms to Muslim sultanate of Malacca. The ancient Malay Hindu-Buddhist states of Gangga Negara, Srivijaya and Majapahit are referenced, as well as ancient Javan Borobudur and Majapahit vessel.

Really nice and modern museum. A large part of the museum is relevant to visitors of the Megalith Portal. Descriptions of the items on display are both in Malay and in English.

The museum is split into 4 equally large parts:
Gallery A is dedicated to the stone, bronze and iron ages including megaliths, passage graves and many finds from these times.
Gallery B is dedicated to the Hindu and Muslim times in Malaysia. It includes finds from Lembah Bujang, an important ancient Hindu site.
Gallery C is dedicated to the colonial times (Portugese, Dutch, English and Japanese)
Gallery D is dedicated to the history of Malaysia as an independent state.
