Hillfort in Hedmark

The hillfort is located on a high forest covered ridge overlooking the lake Mjøsa with a very beautiful view to the north east. This is one of the very few hillforts that have separate walls of stone and earthwork. The south west, west and south side of the ridge have very steep and almost vertical cliffs. This side has natural defenses and it is no walls found here. There is no detailed descriptions of the hillfort in kulturminnesøk, only a report from 2008.

The outer or lower wall is a stone wall that can be followed around the inner or main wall. It is around 100 metres down the hill from the main wall located higher up on the hill. It makes a semi circle running east to west. It is around 200 metres long and at some parts it is almost completely collapsed and overgrown but at some parts the stones are visible. The outer wall encircles an area of around 1 square kilometer.

The inner wall or main wall is also semi circular and going east to west like the outer wall. This wall is made of earth and for a distance of 100 metres it is actually a double wall with a around 2 metres space between them forming a ditch. The with of the walls varies from 3 to 6 metres in some places. In some places the walls have been damaged probably by forest workers.

There are also some visible entrances or openings in the inner and outer wall, both are in the north west and from the opening in the outer wall there is a small path down to lake Mjøsa but it is overgrown in some places and hard to find. I had to push myself trough some very tight vegetation.
