Stone Circle in Oslo

This site consists of a ship-shaped stone setting, a stone circle and around 10 round barrows and cairns dated to be from early to later iron age. It is close to the bronze age rock art site and both are located in a large public park area. Footpaths and signposts are built around the site.

The ship-shaped stone setting has been damaged during the second world war, the stone setting are in the shape of a ship with pointed ends. Today it consists of 10 stones from 0,3 to 0,5 metres in height and rounded in shape. Some of the stones have gone missing over the years and some have been replaced by new ones. The stones are quite small and the shape of the stone ship can be hard to observe.
The stone circle once consisted of 7 boulders placed in a ring, 3 of the boulders have been lost over the years and only four are left and forms a semi-circle. The boulders are from 1 to 1,2 metres in height and around 50 to 70cm wide. The circle has a diameter of around 10-12 metres and the space between the stones are around 2,5 metres.

The barrows have been quite damaged and most of them are located inside a very thick brush forest. They are varying in size from 15 to 5 metres in diameter and from 0,5 to 1 metre in height. Some of them have almost been destroyed. Two barrows are located inside a horse-pen and they are around 12 metres in diameter and from 1 to 1,5 metres in height. These two are easy to see as they are covered only in short grass and some leaf trees.
