Barrow Cemetery in Oppland

The barrow cemetery is located on a grassy hilltop on top of a hill with a beautiful view over the valley to the south. The cemetery is inside a fenced in grazing ground and is covered mostly with short grass, making the cairns easily visible. A broken information poster is placed next to the local road.
The barrow cemetery consists of 9 round and one square cairns and one possible triangular stone setting. Five of them are large and beautiful cairns although they are all overgrown with grass and appear more like barrows than cairns.

The largest cairn is 15 metres in diameter and 3,5 metres in height. It is located in the west part of the cemetery. This cairn is also most overgrown with small brush and trees. The four other middle sized cairns are 8, 9, 11 and 12 metres in diameterer and all are around 2 metres in height. The other barrows are small, from 4-5 metres in diameter and 0,5m in height. These cairns are difficult or impossible to see in the terrain.

In one of the smaller cairns located on the highest point on a natural rock outcrop and closest to the fence have three triangle shaped stones oriented in a triangle shape in the center. This could be a part of a triangle shaped stone setting. One block seems to be standing while two have fallen over. The stones are around 1-1,2 metres in height and 50-60cm wide and thick. The tops are pointed.

The square cairn is 6x6 metes large and wide and 0,5m in height. Around the edges it is a clear ditch and the cairn is built of larger round boulders. One large natural boulder is located in the center.

Two paralell hills are located to the east in the barrow cemetery, around 11 metres in lenght. This could be the remains of a longhouse or settlement housing. The barrows doesnt seem to have much damage or any at all and is a beautiful example of a barrow cemetery.
