Barrow Cemetery in Vestfold

The barrow cemetery at Hella consists of 15 burial monuments. There are 10 round barrows, two square-shaped barrows, one barrow cairn, one stone circle and one open burial cist. One of the barrow has a clear stone ring around its edges. The site is located in a forest just next to a bay with some spread around trees and short grass. A footpath is leading to the site and some signposts have been put up.

The largest barrow is 14 metres across and around 1,5 metres in height. It has originally been taller but the top have been flattened. Around its edges is a ring of round boulders. The boulders are around 30-50cm wide.
The other barrows vary in size from 6 to 12 metres across and around 0,3 to 1 metre in height. The exact size can be difficult to determine since some of the barrow appear to have been put on naturally shaped hills in the terrain probably to make them look larger.
The stone circle is around 7 metres in diameter and consists of 10 rounded blocks of stone and two boulders in the middle. The boulders are from 50cm to 1 metre in diameter and around 0,5m in height. They are located very close to each other with the boulders almost touching each other.
The two square-shaped barrows around 7x7 metres in size and around 0,7 metres in height. The barrow cemetery have been dated to the early iron age.

The barrow cemetery is well-known locally, further to the south is the other ancient site called "The devils gambling table". A path is leading from the cemetery to this other site.
