Barrow Cemetery in Buskerud

This barrow cemetery consists of four round barrows. The name of the local farm is Egge which means edge or ridge. The cemetery is located on a small ridge oriented east to west overlooking the agricultural landscape to the north and south.

The barrow farthest to the west is around 11 metres across and 0,5 metres in height. It has been overplown some few times over the years. The next two barrows are almost identical in size, they are around 17 metres in diameter and around 2 metres in height. The barrow farthest to the east is the largest, around 20 metres in diameter and around 2 metres in height. This barrow is called "Kapellhaugen", it means the chapel mound after a small chapel that was located here in the 1500s, but this is long gone.

All the barrows are covered in high grass, large trees and other vegetation. Some of them can be difficult to get good photos of. None of the barrow have been excavated but a number of items and artifacts have been found over the years, mostly by farming the nearby fields. The barrows have been dated to around 800-900AD.
