Runestone in Nordjylland

- Translation (Danish): Thorgot/Thorgund rejste denne sten efter sin fader Asved. Til ve fandt han argskab sammen med Ildes/Eldes sønner.
- Translation (English): Thorgot (male) (or Thorgund (female)) erected this stone for her father Asved. He/she (endures) the grief and “deception” together with Ilde's sons.
This stone is one of the few Danish runestones that has been carved in shape. Seen from the side it is narrow like a modern tombstone. He was found on February 17th, 1964 by agricultural assistant Villy Nielsen at the highest point of a field, a good 300m S-SW of the Kjellerup estate, when he was working in the field when his plow hit him.
A runic inscription with a similar content is otherwise only found on Bornholm (Vester Marie 5) where a Skogi is reported who cheated the innocently killed Alfar.
The inscription is dated by runologists to be between 970 and 1020. The 9.0 to 12 cm high inscription begins in the lower left corner. It ends in a writing band in the center of the stone, which is read from bottom to top. This inscription scheme is characteristic of the runestones erected around the year 1000 and found mostly on Scanian runestones.
The stone has the following measures: height 157 cm, width 83-100 cm, depth 25 cm.
Since the inscription through the weather is already very faded, I recommend here a look at the following website for further (and better) photos (in German language):
