Ancient Cross in Suffolk. This 19th century cross marks the site of the saint's matyrdom at the hands of the danes. He was tied to a tree and arms shot at him. The cross marks the site of this tree which fell in the 1800s.

The saint's body was apparently buried nearby and then translated to what is now Bury St. Edmunds. The bridge called Gold Bridge near the site is said to be cursed after a wedding group disclosed the whereabouts of the hiding king to the danes, no wedding parties travel over the bridge as a result!

St. Edmund's Cross
St. Edmund's Cross submitted by Spiderdrone : Parking at the local church hall and turn right following the road past the few bungalows and the access to the cross is on the left. Currently looks like there’s going to be some building work on the access land so not sure how this will affect access in the future. (Vote or comment on this photo)
