Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Kent

Holywelle, said to have been found half way up Church street, was a ‘ fayr spring’ or ‘large open well of water’. People were fined for throwing dung in it. Locale historian Dale (1933) believes that the site of the holy well was where the straight joints in the churchyard wall are found, probably near St. Leonard’s Chapel. However, in correspondence with the vicar of St. Leonard’s, there is now no physical evidence.
