Annan Road Bronze Age Barrow Cemetery submitted by JoAtherton : Five Bronze Age barrows on a scrap of meadow squeezed between the University of Essex and the railway line. Originally spotted by aerial photography in 1948, the official monument record designates this site as 'a group of five round barrows within the floodplain of the River Colne and at the confluence with Salary Brook'. The mounds are just visible if you know where to look. (Vote or comment on this photo)
A group of five Bronze Age barrows on a scrap of water meadow squeezed between the University of Essex and the railway line.

Originally spotted by aerial photographs in 1948, the official monument record designates this site as 'a group of five round barrows within the floodplain of the River Colne and at the confluence with Salary Brook'. The mounds are just visible if you know where to look, and one currently lies beneath a derelict car park.

A footbridge over the railway between the University of Essex campus and halls of residence complex affords a great elevated view directly above the mounds.
