Cairn in Essex

The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) features a page for this now destroyed tumulus - see their entry for St. John’s Green, Colchester, Essex, which describes how the remains "came to light in January 1930, 'during the laying of a gas main under the west footpath of Flagstaff Road, about 100 yards south of St. John’s Green.' Although the barrow or tumulus had already been levelled, sheer diligence and care on behalf—one believes—of antiquarian M.R. Hull saved the vessel (a prehistoric decorated urn) from an otherwise inevitable doom!"

The TNA entry also includes a photograph of the decorated urn found in the tumulus.

Details of the vessel are recorded asPastscape Monument No. 384079, where they tell us the urn was presented to Colchester Museum.
