Natural Stone in Essex. I spotted a large stone, a pudding stone erratic, a few yards down a path towards the entrance to The Priory.
It is in an earth bed, on your right hand side as you head towards the priory, shortly before the security gates and half hidden by a rhododendron bush. All this is more or less opposite The Carved Angel pub in Earl's Colne, Essex.
The stone is of similar composition to the better known stones at Alphamstone, which I guess is about 10 miles away. It has deep but narrow holes in it, like some of the stones at Alphamstone, which like at alphamstone provoke thoughts as to what extent these holes are natural and to what extent made by water.
The stone as exposed was about 18 inches tall, by 18 inches wide by a foot at it's widest, irregular in shape. All these measurments are approx and only record the bits of the stone above ground.
Like the stones at Alphamstone, I saw could see no other similar stones locally and like at Alphamstone, this stone is now closely associated Geographically to a Christian site.
