Erratic in Suffolk
A glacial erratic 1.2m x 1m x 1m, beside Rede Road, near the village of Whepstead.
Locally it has gained the name of the Baal Stone, with tales that sacrifices used to take place on the stone. There is a rough and shallow channel on top, which some say was for the blood to drain away. Authorities say that it is the base of a medieval wayside cross, and its position on Stonecross Green seems to bear that out. But unless it's underneath, there is no socket hole for any shaft to have fitted into.
