Lady Well (Lamberhurst)
Lady Well (Lamberhurst) submitted by DavidCWoods : The well has a masonry housing, but this is cracked and in need of repair. A flight if steps lead down the bank, providing access, but these too look very unsafe and best avoided. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Kent

I followed a somewhat circuitous route when I visited this site in April 2006, as local paths seemed changed somewhat by the construction of the Lamberhurst by-pass. This, however, is what I should have done:

Starting at the church of St. Mary the Virgin, itself some way from the centre of Lamberhurst, make you way to the opposite side of the church from the car park, facing west south west. A golf course is spread before you, and as I visited on a Saturday it was very busy. I asked permission before entering. To your left is a treeline long the edge of the fairway and, following this about halfway down the hill, you will reach a point where the ground falls sharply away towards a stream. Set in this bank is the well.

Lady Well (Lamberhurst) submitted by DavidCWoods : Viewed from approximately the top of the stairs, the relative position of the church may be seen. Interestingly, although the name Lady Well seems little documented in maps and references, it was immediately identified as such to me by a passing golfer. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Lady Well (Lamberhurst)
Lady Well (Lamberhurst) submitted by DavidCWoods : The well itself contained water and, although covered with a thick layer of algae, the water flowed in a small stream to join its larger companion and, eventually, the River Teise. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Found thanks to previous visitor Davids photograph. It sits under an old oak tree. it would help if the golf club told people it was there. it is a beautiful well, a delight to visit. The well house has old graffiti on the inside. It could do with a path leading down to through the woods from the church. very easy to draw water from.
