Re: La Gelie by TAUPIN on Wednesday, 01 February 2012

Last sunday , I went in the woodland near the hamlet of La GELIE on the community of EDON . I was looking for a standing stone on a parcel of land along an enclosure wall . I found a colapse part in this wall with boars trail , I toke it and after 100 metres in the woods looking around me I saw in a clearing a big red limestone on the ground . When I went near it , I saw it was the capstone of a burial chamber . I turn around it and a second capstone appears . This dolmen is about 5 metres long and 4 m wide and for the most part included in a tumulus with a 12 m diametre and about 1.5 m high . The dolmen and his corridor are on a NNW , SSE orientation . The biggest capstone is about 1.3 on thickness and about 4 m on width . I don't stay more time on this site because it is a private property and some dogs were starting bark maybe it was for me . But this burial chamber is the second on the village of EDON near the dolmen de LOMBERTIE at 950 metres in the NW .

The accurate position with GPS reciever is : N 45.496280 E 0.363080

I send too six pictures of this beautiful burial chamber .

    Merci beaucoup.

Thank you for this information TAUPIN. You are doing a very good job of finding many of these lesser known megalithic sites for us.

But please note this site is on private land, and permission should be obtained from the landowner first.
