This stone was perhaps a standing-stone which has fallen. It is a limestone cylinder about 2 metres long and 1 metre in diameter. It is on the edge of a track along a shooting area of the army, but access is allowed out of shooting exercises. This stone is on "La Braconne" forest where we can find many abyss and caves.
A legend is attached to this stone and written down on a signpost.
The inhabitants of the aréa want to see the filling-up of "La Grand'fosse", a nearby abyss; and for that they called the Devil. Nothing more easy for him to carry some big rocks on his shoulders.
For this deal the farmers had the bad idéa to accept to give them souls and those of them descendants to the Prince of the night; but only if the work was finished at the crowof the cock. The Devil had just made a single trip and poured out loose stones when he heard cock-a-doodle-doo.
The cock had perhaps taken the moon for the sun or drunk some wine ? One thing is certain; the big stone carried by the Devil firmly chained on his shoulders had never been put down in the abyss and it is since this adventure left at the side of the track. The prints of chains and Devil's shoulders can be imagined on the stone and on the other extrémity there is a Christian cross engraved.
