Wicken Bonhunt Puddingstone
Wicken Bonhunt Puddingstone submitted by Thorgrim : Small puddingstone built into the wall of the chapel. Possibly a votive stone from an earlier pagan wooden temple. Stone was a great rarity in Essex and the walls of the chapel are built of small fragments of flint, Roman brick and pebbles bound together with cement. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Wicken Bonhunt Puddingstone
Wicken Bonhunt Puddingstone submitted by Thorgrim : A sarsen stone has been used to support the corner of the chapel. Later Norman additions were imported dressed stones and then brick when the chapel became a storage shed (Vote or comment on this photo)

Wicken Bonhunt Puddingstone
Wicken Bonhunt Puddingstone submitted by Thorgrim : Two erratic stones have been built into the walls of this pre-conquest chapel - a puddingstone and a sarsen. Are they relicts of earlier pagan worship or just convenient building stones in a stoneless landscape? (Vote or comment on this photo)
