Ancient Town in Oaxaca, Mexico,
The main Zapotec Culture political and economic capital. This hill top site with pyramids and other monumental buildings is sites on a ridge line that was artificially leveled to create a building base.

The first constructions occurred in 500 BC, but the city had its maximum influence from 100BC through 500 AD. Sometime after 700 AD the site was abandoned as a large population center or a capital, but some reuse of structures continued into the colonial period.

Surrounding the main site are hundreds of artificial terraces and clusters on villages and farmsteads.

The site is open to the public and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
