Largest group of burial mounds and associated village sites in Canada. The archaeological record dates back 8000 years, with 15 burial mounds dating to what is termed the Laurel culture (300 BC to 1100 AD). The mounds vary in size with the largest being 7 meters tall.

A modern visitor center includes exhibits that describe the area's natural history and the historic and prehistoric culture of the Anishinaabeg (Ojibwe) peoples. The center also includes an archaeological collection and curation of finds from the area. The mounds and other sites can be seen on a self guided walking tour of the site.
Camping and multi day tours, lectures and classes are available.

Note: The location given is for the Kay-nah-chi-wah-nung Historic Site Visitor's Center. Learn more at the Historic Site website.
