Marksville submitted by AKFisher : Burial mound at the Marksville, Louisiana Mound Complex. [WIKI: J. Stephen Conn] (Vote or comment on this photo)
Artificial Mound in Avoyelles County, Louisiana.
This is the "type" site for the Marksville culture in the Woodland Era. The elaborate burial goods, burial mounds and earthen enclosures have been interpretted to have a connection to the Hopewell culture of Ohio.

Marksville is a Louisiana State Historic Site, with a walking trail that skirts the earthen enclosure and passes by two principal mounds. There is also small museum (the location given is for the museum).
