Artificial Mound in Saint Louis County, Missouri.
St. Louis was once known as Mound City, but the complexes of large mounds were used to fill in low spots for construction in the 1800's. The few remaining examples have survived because they were not well known and their owners left them alone. Blake Mound is one of these, "adopted" by local professionals and enthusiasts, but not publicized or accessible to the general public.
The location given is approximate. Blake lies above the Missouri River flood plain, near the town of Chesterfield.
