Dun Ducathair (spelt Dun Duchalthair on the Irish Ordnance Survey map and also known as the Black Fort) is located on the southern coastal cliffs of Inishmore in the Aran Islands. It is harder to reach than the popular Dun Aengus further north on the same cliffs, but has a wonderful feeling of remoteness. The defensive walls terminate at the cliff edge making for a spectacular remote location.

Walk south out of Kilronan for 1.5 km and take the second lane on the right which becomes a rough track. Follow the track towards the cliffs for 1.5 km. Through a gate make your way over open ground towards your left to reach the fort on the cliff top.
