Anta de Adrenunes
Anta de Adrenunes submitted by Bak_teria : The best way to get there is to contact some tourist hiking trail service at Sintra and have someone to lead you. You can only reach your destination by foot making a very long walk in the middle of nowhere. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Burial Chamber (Dolmen) in Estremadura and Tejo Valley. The Anta of Adrenunes was classified as a national monument by the Portuguese Institute of Architectural Heritage. Located in the Cabo da Roca area, some sources indicate that it is a dolmen which would have served as a collective necropolis during the megalithic period.

The theory that it is a dolmen was proposed by Joaquim Possidónio Narciso da Silva (1806-1896), who carried out excavations at the site. Despite all that was originally said, no signs of subchambers have been found or any kind of mortal remains. Some believe this structure is not more than a chance result of nature. Anyway, the existence of shims in the foundations of some of the blocks and having regard to its layout and orientation relative to the setting of the sun and moon proves the intervention of man. Is situated atop a small and unusual hill and reveals traces of old flooring in its access, thus revealing an unsuspected archaeological and cultural importance.

Adrenunes dolmen is located in a place of very difficult access and you can only get there after a very long walk. The atmosphere of the location is magnificent and makes all worthwhile.
