Court Tomb in Co. Clare

Reached across the fields at the end of a long farm road off the R479 near Doolin this court tomb sits in a hollow beyond which there is a view down to the sea. Two large chambers are entered through the remains of a court whose tall portals and part of the left side survive.

Officially recorded as monument CL008-002001-

The tomb is still is still in reasonable condition although overgrown at the time of my visit in June 2021.

The south east arm of the court can be made out with a number of stones still standing. The entrance stones and one of the chambers still stand and a lot more stones are underfoot around the whole site.

The tomb is orientated NE / SW with the opening of the tomb apparently orientated to a large glacial erratic boulder known as Leagwee Rock, visible on the horizon to the North East.
