The megalithic monument of CasaÃnhos best known for 'Anta de CasaÃnhos' is located in the town of CasaÃnhos at Fanhões (Loures). This funerary monument was only classified as a national monument of Portugal in 1977.
When better studied in 1961 this megalithic monument was erected in the middle of the Neo Chalcolithic established for this region of the current Portuguese territory. It was done in a time when a perfectly deployed farming culture and proliferation of occupations concentrated in villages with excellent defense conditions in the same tradition of the late Neolithic of the Extremadura region.
It has a polygonal burial chamber of which only two original slabs remain. The dolmen - or 'anta' as it is known among the local population - has an access corridor with a lateral niche.
Beyond the osteological remains of the buried it was also found abundant associated material highlighting the lithics (like a arrowhead) and a small beads necklace executed in shale and limestone along with the ever present ceramic fragments.
