Bynum submitted by bat400 : Bynum Mounds and Village site. There were originally six burial mounds (the smaller ones much eroded by the plow.) All six were fully excavated and the two largest mounds were reconstructed . Photo by bat400, Oct 2011. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Burial Mound and Ancient Village in Chickasaw County, Mississippi.
Six burial mounds and a village site identified as part of the "Miller culture" (100 BC to 100 AD) of the broader Middle Woodland period. In the 1940's the mounds were excavated completely, but two were reconstructed to their original size and shape.

The burial mounds contained human remains buried in a variety of ways, including cremations packaged in budles and remains buried in small log tombs or chambers. Grave goods included items made of non-local materials The footprints of circular houses were also found.

The site is just off the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is signposted and has interpretive signage on site.
