The Bear Creek site was a village with a square flat-topped platform mound, 85 feet on a side and five feet high. The village was occupied from 1100 - 1300 AD. Excavation on the mound revealed evidence of a post, wattle and daub building on the platform.
The site is maintained by the National Park Service and lies along the scenic Natchez Trace Parkway. This is only one of many pre-contact town, village, and habitation sites along the trace.
