Ancient Village or Settlement in Posey County, Indiana.
Village site post dates the decline of Angel Mounds. Designated the Carborn-Welborn Culture, the people who lived here did not always raise mounds, but had a roughly similar village life with wattle and daub buildings around a central plaza.
Caborn-Welborn is felt to have been based on and to have followed the culture that created Angel Mounds. Unlike the Angel phase, Caborn-Welborn is characterized by characterized by small settlements spread out over a larger areas of land. It was one of the last distinct prehistoric cultures of the Ohio Valley, prior to European contact. Another Caborn-Welborn example is the Slack Farm site.
The Hovey Lake Archaeological District actually contains 18 pre-contact sites and covers 343 acres.
