Enyart Mound
Enyart Mound submitted by bat400 : Enyart Mound, Butler County, Ohio Prehistoric, but not attributted to a particular culture. This is a reconstruction to restore the original 1870's survey height of the mound (6 feet.) The figures at the left, beyond the mound are a bit taller than 5 feet. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Reconstructed Mound in Butler County, Ohio. This mound shows a typical method of modern reconstruction of an earthen mound, following a dig.

Artificial Mound.

This mound was drastically diminished in height by plowing from the 1860's through the 1930's. It was described as being 6 feet in height in an 1878 survey, but it was reduced to a mere 2 feet in height by the early 1900's. It was partially excavated in 1971. I've not yet found the detailed results of this dig. Following the dig, Miami University replaced soil and added more to reconstruct the original 1870's description and protect the unexcavated portions. The mound is on highlands overlooking Indian Creek and the village of Reily, but a second growth forest obscures any view during the summer months.

On the property of the Indian Creek Preserve, a Butler County Park. The mound is about a quarter mile down on a nature trail leading through a planted pine wood. There is a parking lot with a picnic area, shelter house and pit toilets. Daytime use only (dawn to dusk) year round.
