Museum in Bartow County, Georgia, USA

The small museum at Etowah Mounds was closed when I visited, but many of the artefacts from the excavations of the site are housed here, including the marble human effigy statues. The statues are occasionally loaned to other institutions, so they may not be there when you visit.

The site straddles the two maps, and can be seen at MapTech.

Etowah Mounds Museum submitted by AKFisher : I was asked about the artifacts that are most intriguing to me. Among my Top 10 would be the Rogan Plates, excavated from one of the Etowah, Georgia Mound Complex in 1885. The "Falcon Dancer" (known as Plate 1) is an embossed copper plate 20 inches in length. The largest one is 2 feet tall. The "discolorization" is from copper stain. They are no longer on display. Photo: Herb Roe, Wiki Commons. When I visited the Etowah Mounds and this museum, I was immediately struck by the sophistication of the lifesize marble carvings, that had been painted and than buried by these incredible people. and than, I saw a most fantastic site, and one that endeared me forever to these people, Thick Copper Breastplates, whose artwork would rival the beauty and intricacy of any culture in the world. This is a "Must See" for anyone thinking the natives of North America were "Primitive".
