Millford Earthworks Circle Diverging Lines
Millford Earthworks Circle Diverging Lines submitted by bat400 photo : From Squier & Davis, Ancient Monuments of the Mississippi Valley, 1848. "It occupies the third terrace, which is here broad and fertile, and consists of those constantly recurring figures, the square and the circle. ... From the hill an extensive prospect is afforded, bringing in view the sites of several large groups of works in the vicinity. " (Vote or comment on this photo)
Hill Figure or Geoglyph in Clermont and Hamilton counties, Ohio.
Part of what is described as the 'Milford-Newtown-Turner earthwork cluster' multiple earthworks were built on both sides of the Little Miami River around and in what is now Milford Ohio.

Squier & Davis include some of the Milford earthworks in their 1848 Ancient Monuments of the Mississippi Valley. One of the most prominent to them and including an unique shape was a complex of a hilltop circle with diverging walls leading out of the circle to the southwest. They also indicated a connecting parallel lined causeway leading east to a much larger square with a co-joined, large irregular circle.
Unfortunately their figure in the publication places the complex on actual topography that does not match their text description of the hilltop location.

In the later half of the 19th century the small town of Milford expanded eastward along the Milford-Chilicothe turnpike and pretty much completely destroyed this earthwork. Aerial photography from the 1930's through the 1960's captures some of the complex and places the circle of this figure at the location indicated for this site.
