Mound in Great Lakes Midwest

From historical marker on site: "Indian Mound attributed to Adena people who inhabited Ohio Valley ca. 800 B.C. to 700 A.D. They began cultivating simple crops, bringing about a mixed hunting and farming economy. Central to Adena life were rituals involving cremation and mound building. Engraved stone tablets found here indicate mound to be Adena. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 1975."

The Gaitskill Mound was originally 100 feet long, 40 feet wide, and 30 feet tall. Excavations into the mound have reduced the size somewhat, although the mound remains fairly well preserved. Two engraved sandstone Adena tablets were recovered from the mound.[1] See photos.
