Shannon Mound
Shannon Mound submitted by AKFisher : Adena Era burial mound in Shannon, Kentucky saved from destruction because it was used as a historical cemetery.   Wiki photo: creative commons by Aramgar. Description courtesy Dr Greg Little, author of the Illustrated Encyclopedia of Native American Indian Mounds & Earthworks (2016). (Vote or comment on this photo)
The Shannon Mound site is most likely an Adena burial mound. It is a 100 foot diameter conical mound, 10 feet in height. The immediate area around the mound has been used as a cemetary in historic times; thus, the mound has not been excavated. The north end of the mound, perhaps an additional 15 to 20 feet of diameter, is missing.
