A 20 foot high conical mound is of Hopewell origins, dating to between 100 BC and 400 AD. Human habitation of the area dates back 8000 years. The mound was once part of a group of earthworks with a rectangular enclosure, two circular enclosures and a smaller mound. The works are located on a 60 foot high bluff over the Olentangy River.
All of these structures except the large mound were broken down by the plow over the years. A housing estate has grown up around the mound which is still preserved. Visitors are welcome in daylight hours and asked to treat the mound and the neighborhood with respect.
Jeffers Mound is on the National Register of Historic Places.
