Burial Mound in Kanawha County, West Virginia.
This conical mound is attributed to the Adena culture and dated to 250-150 BC. The mound was originally 10m high, but top surface was flattened in 1840. Excavations in the 1880's revealed the remains of burial chamber at the heart of the mound and the likelihood that the burial of 13 individuals were the reason for the construction of the mound itself. Criel also contained intrusive burials from a much later period.

Although the Kanawha Valley has been inhabited for at least 12000 years, the area is noteworthy for the mounds and earthworks attributed to the Adena Culture (roughly 800BC - 1 AD). In the 1880's there were still at least 50 mounds and more than 10 earthwork enclosures visible within 15 km of the Criel Mound.

The South Charleston Interpretive Center offers descriptions of the excavation of the mound and the Adena culture in the Kanawha Valley.

In 1970 the mound was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
