Arch Creek Park in Miami-Dade County, Florida contains middens that date back to the Tequesta period. The Tequesta were a Native American tribe that occupied the area between 500 BCE and 1700 CE. The middens are located in the park's southeast corner.

The middens are the result of a village that occupied the area since at least 750 BCE. The village was probably less than 100 people and covered more than 5 acres. The Tequesta could easily access Biscayne Bay to the east and the Everglades to the west by canoe. Their diet was heavy in seafood.

The middens contain artifacts from both the Tequesta and Seminole Indian settlements. Source: Google generative AI / Wikipedia.
