The tomb was identified by Octavio da Veiga Ferreira while doing geological surveys in the region of Vila Franca de Xira. Later its excavation at September 30 and October 1, 1972 was directed by engineer Christopher Thomas North and had the support of G. Zbyszewsky, O.V. Ferreira, Manuel Leitão, Henry Reynolds de Sousa, Joseph Norton and Jorge Paulino.
Few artifacts were found which complicates a precise dating of the monument. By the type of construction and taking into account other existing characteristic specimens in the neighbouring regions, it was believed that it had been built in the Neo-Chalcolithic period. Also of some importance of note is the presence of remains of human bones of only one individual.
At a structural level this tomb was classified as a dolmen with a short or nonexistent hallway, with a south-east oriented sub-trapezoidal camera which is approximately symmetrical, open and covered, presumably with a false dome. There is still visible remains of the tumulus. This structure shows small differences that raise doubts about their first archaeological assessment. Another very important detail is the fact that this tomb is very small compared to others of the same kind.
