But no-one knows for sure if she is to be found underneath this huge pile of stones About 30m to the ENE of this mound is another smaller structure which is circular being 4m in diameter.
The hill of Knocknarea commands a broad view of the environs and can be seen from very far away, thus the grave site was constructed as a reminder of Queen Maeve's greatness. The huge stone mound apparently grew to such a size as everyone coming up to the mound brought with them a stone as tribute. Of added interest are the marine fossils to be found on many of the rocks.
