Carrowmore 27 is a passage tomb with a cruciform chamber surrounded by a ring of large kerb stones and is one of the oldest and largest of the surviving sites at Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery. There are similarities to the layout at Dowth with the central orthostats set in a lozenge shape and having been dated to around 3825 BC it gives some credibility to the theory that eastern and western Irish sites developed indigenously rather than being influenced by imported ideas from Brittany.
