A remote Court Tomb in Co. Donegal

Carricknamoghil Court Tomb was quite overgrown when I visited it in September 2008. However, it was possible to make out a chamber, some of the gallery and some of the mound. Other orthostats were in a bit of a tumbled mess around the site. Known locally as "Dermot and Grania's Bed" it is a bit hard to find without notes, so here is my description:

Take the minor road north from Killybegs town (the one which runs to the west of the Stragar River, NOT the R263 which crosses the river to join the N56). After 3.5 kilometres you reach a couple of rows of houses and a work yard on the left of the road. Park here and walk up past a small cottage set back from the road. A track goes around this cottage (you will think you are in their garden) and continues up the slope of the hill to a gate. Go through the gate and continue up the hill to the ridge (approximately 250 metres from the road) and the tomb is in front of you. There were very inquisitive cows in the field when I visited - I don't think they normally get many visitors!
