The Ulme menhir is a standing stone located in the parish of Ulme, in the county of Chamusca of the Santarém district. The origin of this monument is yet to be identified since there's not much megalithic monuments in the region. This monument is not yet classified and there aren't any official referencies about it but the one in the Ulme village webpage. Still, is a beautiful monument to check out. Next to it is also a plaque made with typical Portuguese painted ceramic tiles, signed by Ana Silva. It says: Menir Fálico, Símbolo de Fertilidade (Phallic Menhir, Fertility Symbol). Within the painting can be also seen the Ulme parish coat of arms.
About the shape
The shape of this monument brings me a lot of questions. There aren't any megalithic monuments in this region but the presence of the Romans was well noticed. Taking that in mind is possible to see the resemblance of this so-called menhir with a Roman milestone, both in size and by its smoothed and well shaped form.
